860 Tioga Avenue

Sand City, CA

Free Artist Reception, August 16, 11 to 5 p.m.

After the Sand City City Council enthusiastically supported the city’s very first gallery grand opening in May, the Red Door Garden & Art Gallery now presents local Metal Sculptor, Mike Garnero, at its inaugural free artist reception with live music on Saturday, August 16, 11 to 5 p.m. at 860 Tioga Avenue, Sand City (behind Costco).

Garnero, an award-winning artist, will be on hand to discuss his recycled metal art, including his popular and colorful fish that draw drivers into the gallery. For this event, Garnero produced a new series of wind-driven kinetic sculptures.  The reception will also feature other works from the artist, including sculptured succulent holders and framed sea-glass compositions.

Speaking of the event, co-owner Gilbert Julian states, “The Monterey area has a load of talented artists. It’s exciting to be able to spotlight some of the less recognized ones.”

Working in metal for over 15 years, Mike has created a plethora of fun and colorful objects. From seascapes to clocks to fountains and beyond, his work is eclectic and diverse, but rooted in a strong aesthetic based on his love for the ocean. This aesthetic comes from having lived in the Monterey area his whole life, and surfing its beautiful waters for the past 50 years.

The Red Door Garden & Art Gallery is Sand City’s first and only full-service gallery. It specializes in outside and inside landscaping, from succulents, cacti, planters, stones, sculptures, to framed and matted original art, jewelry, woodwork, hand-carved gourds, and more. The Gallery also offers matting and framing services. owner Gilbert Julian and wife Joy Julian are two of the Gallery’s local artists.
