Red Door Art & Garden Gallery was the dream of owner Gilbert Julian to fulfill a need in his senior life to reopen another art gallery as he once had on the famous Cannery Row in the city of Monterey. After closing that gallery, and a long period of being away from the arts, the yearning to reestablish his involvement in the arts began slowly in 2009. He started purchasing equipment for picture framing, printing, and photography, and began entering art shows again. In 2010 he rented some studio space to create his art and have a place for some of the large picture framing equipment that had been purchased. On October of 2012 a location came up in the city of Sand City that was affordable and extended itself to having retail sales for interior and exterior use. Gilbert’s dream was slowly springing to life. Set to formally open doors with a grand opening celebration in May of 2014, Red Door Art & Garden Gallery will be filled with local artisan wares, including the work of Gilbert’s wife, Joy Julian, and numerous others. The outdoor gardens will deal primarily in succulents, aloes, agaves, cactus and drought resistant plants, as well as handmade garden art, pottery and planters. Also a greenhouse of tillandsia’s or air plants, epyphyllums and the garden’s cactus collection.  All this in an environment that is welcoming, artistic, and fulfilling for all to enjoy.
